Meeting in the village of Houston in January 1839, the Third Congress of the Republic of Texas approved a new design by Charles Stewart, the second man to sign the Declaration of Independence. The framed flag measures 28" x 40".

By this date, between 75 to 100 men had been recruited in Cincinnati as volunteers in the Texas Revolution. They were called the “Buckeye Rangers.”
