Johanna Troutman, called the Betsy Ross of Texas, made one of the first flags of the Texas Republic. Unfurled at Velasco in January of 1836 and carried into battle at Goliad by Colonel Fannin on March 27, 1836 and was raised as the national flag of the Republic of Texas. It was one of the most inspirational symbols during the dark days between the fall of the Alamo and the victory at San Jacinto. The flag is framed in barnwood and measures 41"W x 30"H.
